This December 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 2:
- Members of the William Combs family enjoyed their Christmas at the home of their son and brother, James Combs, and wife last Sunday. This is the first time the family has all been together for five years. Ralph and Jim have just been discharged from the service, and Tom was home on furlough. It was a most joyous day for the entire family.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 14, 1946, issue (page 2, column 1):
- The following local boys have received their discharges from the navy the past week: Robert F. Cullen, PH M 3/c; Roger E. Brown, AET M 3/c; Thomas R. Combs, PH, M 2/c; and Robert Surprise, SOM 2/c.
The following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the Oct. 29, 1954, Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Tom Combs Escapes Injury in Bad Accident
Tom Combs walked away uninjured last Thursday morning when his new Chevrolet was rendered into junk in an accident at the intersection of Routes 2 and 55 at the Orchard Grove Service Station. A truck parked at the station obstructed the view of Combs' car approaching from the east on Route 2, and a car driven by Jesse Putnam of Gary pulled on to the state highway from Route 55, directly into the path of Combs' car. The impact of the crash overturned Tom's auto several times, and it skidded down the pavement on its top.Mrs. Putnam and Mr. and Mrs. Gail Forsythe, riding with Mr. Putnam, were treated at Gary Methodist hospital.
Tom, who is principal of the Gibson school, R.R. 6, Rensselaer, was enroute to Lowell, and planned to attend Teachers' Institute at Gary.
Tom Combs and his wife, the former Bonnie Spry, are both natives of Lowell.
