Edwin Willis Dinwiddie (1856-1924)

The following May 22, 1924, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 8, column 1:
    Edwin Willis Dinwiddie, son of John Wilson Dinwiddie and Mary Perkins Dinwiddie, was born December 18, 1856, at the home in Plum Grove and later went to Valparaiso University for four years. He was married October 22, 1884, to Candace Belshaw of West Creek. To this union eleven children were born, of whom six daughters and two sons are living. In 1886 he settled on a homestead in Florida. After five years he returned to Plum Grove and lived on the old home farm until 1902, when he entered the Internal Revenue Service in Hammond. In 1919 he left the service and returned to the farm where he remained until his death, May 14, 1924, at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 27 days. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Henry and Edwin; six daughters, Marjorie, Mrs. C.A. Anderson, Mrs. V.R. Smith, Mrs. J. Winters, Mrs. D.H. Campbell, and Mrs. F.E. Cole; two brothers, Oscar and Jerome; one sister, Mrs. F.R. Brownell.

    Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 2 p.m. and they were attended by a large circle of old friends and neighbors. The services were in charge of Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the Lowell M.E. Church, and Rev. Fred Gibson, pastor of the Lowell Church of Christ. The singing was by Mrs. Raymond McCarty, Mrs. Forrest Griessel and Miss Flaey Sanger. After the service at the home the funeral procession was formed and went to the Plum Grove cemetery, where the members of Lowell Lodge Knights of Phythias performed their burial service. Interment was made in the Plum Grove cemetery. Undertaker William Sheets had charge of the burial service. The following nephews of the deceased acted as pall-bearers: Carl Brownell, J.A. Dinwiddie, M.E. Dinwiddie, Bernie Nichols, Joe Dinwiddie, Ralph Brownell.

    Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral were: A.M. Turner, of Hammond; Mrs. J.M. Turner, of Hammond; Mrs. Ann Beebe and daughter, Mrs. Belle Gormley, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Lorraine Dinwiddie, Morgan Park, Ill.; Wm. H. Randall, Mrs. Henry Randall, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tabler, Mrs. Laura Perkins, of Minooka, Ill.; also many relatives and friends from Crown Point and Hebron.
