Lucy May Smith Zartman (1875-1921)

- Lucy May Smith, daughter of John and Jane Smith, was born near Sherburnville, Ill., January 1, 1875. Here she grew to womanhood. She attended Lowell High school and was a member of the graduating class of 1893. On August 18, 1897, she was united in marriage to Richard D. Zartman. To this union four children were born: Pearl, now the wife of Ira G. Smith, Grant, Clarence and Glenn at home. In early girlhood she united with the Christian church and later transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church at Galveston, Ind. She ever lived a faithful and consistent Christian life. She was a loving wife and mother devoted to her family, a friend to all and ever ready with a loving heart to lend a helping hand to anyone in need of comfort or in distress.
She leaves to mourn her, her husband, four children, one grand-son, Richard William Smith, four sisters, three brothers, and numerous other relatives and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held from the home near Galveston, Ind., last Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. A.E. Leese, pastor of M.E. church, officiated. Interment in Galveston cemetery. Those attending the funeral from this vicinity were: Mr. and Mrs. Grant Hayden, Mr. and Mrs. Hermie Hayden, J.E. Zartman, Lowell; Jess Stowell, Hebron; Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Beckler, Mr. and Mrs. Ancil Smith, of Grant Park.
