The following June 23, 1927, Lowell Tribune obituary appeared on page 1, column 2:
- Merritt Kenneth Gordon, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gordon, was born in Lowell, Indiana, December 21, 1904, and departed this life Wednesday, June 15*, 1927, just as the sun's rays were spreading over everything beautiful, at the age of 22 years, 5 months and 24 days.
Throughout his long illness he was always very patient and mindful of those who cared for him. He was a young man of noble character and very industrious, always manifesting a vital interest in his work and school life.
Kenneth was a sincere Christian and a member of the M.E. church in Lowell, into which fellowship he was received on April 3, 1916, under the ministry of Rev. V.B. Servies.
He graduated from Lowell High school with the Class of 1924 and was a student in the University of Indiana. Throughout his school days he was very active in athletics.
He leaves to mourn him, his father, mother one brother, Keith, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held from the home Friday, June 17, at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. E.A. Dougherty, assisted by Rev. C.A. Brown. The following members of his class acted as pallbearers -- Marshall Sanger, Ernest Wooldridge, Milton Kenney, Lee Sanger, Harold Sutton, Franklin Petry and Joseph Kanarr. Honorary pall bearers were -- Helen Burroughs, Thelma Wheeler, Margaret Osgood, Lyrril Taylor, Gladys Sprague and Bertha Burnham. Interment was made in Lowell cemetery in charge of Weaver and Son.
